Klizan came back from set and break down
Fifth-seeded Slovakian Martin Klizan (pictured) came back from one set and break down to reach the second round of PBZ Zagreb Indoors by defeating Italian Matteo Viola by 4:6, 7:6 (6), 6:1 on Tuesday. It was hist first win of the season, recorded only after big battle against lucky loser who lost in the last round of qualifying but got place in the main draw after the withdrawal of injured Polish player Lukas Rosol.
Viola was set and break up (6:4, 3:2) but was not able to keep the advantage. Klizan failed to convert two set points at 5:4, then one more at 6:5 and two more in the tie-breaker before finally winning the set on sixth opportunity. Viola lost all his service games in the third set, as Klizan cruised to victory.
Somdev Devvarman from India saved match point en route to the round of 16, winning against two-time Zagreb runner-up Michael Berrer. German led 6:0, 2:1 with break of serve, then held match point at 6-5 in the tie-breaker, but ended the match retiring at 6:0, 6:7, 1:4 due to the fatigue.
Two Croatian wildcards, Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic, both lost singles matches on Tuesday, but even though they failed to win a single set it was not an easy job for their opponents. Mektic started strong against Igor Sijsling from the Netherlands, leading 3:0 in the first set, but won only three more games afterwards. Pavic led 5:3 in the first set against German Philipp Petszchner and then lost nine games in the row, as Petzschner prevailed with 7:5, 6:2 win.
