Flying start for champions from 2011 and 2012
PBZ Zagreb Indoors winners from 2011 and 2012, Croatian Ivan Dodig and Russian Mikhail Youzhny (pictured), both had flying start on Wednesday. They won matches in straights sets and both did not lost serve during the rather impressive outing.
Dodig won against German Benjamin Becker by 6:2, 7:6 (3), not even facing the break point. Croat squandered five break points at 1:1 in the second set and match was decided in the tie-breaker. Becker started better, winning two opening points, but Dodig recovered quickly and won tie-breaker by 7-3.
„I am satisfied with the way I played, considering the fact that I did not have much time to adjust from the claycourt. Still, I always play good here, conditions suit me well“, Dodig said.
In the second round on Thursday Dodig will play against compatriot Ivo Karlovic. They played against each other twice so far and Dodig won both matches.
„Ivo played very well against Dimitrov. Leading 2-0 against him does not mean anything. Both matches were close encounters. I hope that it will be match on high level and let the one who plays better win the match“, Dodig said.
Youzhny was the first one this year who reached the quarterfinals by defeating Dutchman Igor Sijsling by 6:3, 6:2. He lost only three points on his first serve (won 29 out of 32 points) and faced only two break points. For the place in the semifinals he will either play Ivan Dodig or Ivo Karlovic.
