Marin Cilic wins title for the third time!
Marin Cilic won PBZ Zagreb Indoors title for the third time! In the final of the 8th tournament edition top-ranked Croat defeated Austrian Jurgen Melzer in 66 minutes, winning 9th career singles ATP World Tour title.
Cilic won in Dom sportova in 2009 defeating compatriot Mario Ancic and again in 2010, when he defended the title against German Michael Berrer.
Cilic played top-class tennis on Sunday rigth from the start, having two break points in the second game. Melzer was first broken at 3:4, when he was upset by linesman call that denied him an ace when he served facing break. It was tough task for Austrian afterwards, with Cilic losing one game only until the end of the match.
“It is really tough to say if the ball was in or not. It was close, it was strong serve, but there are several calls like this in any match”, Cilic said. I felt I played almost perfect match, for sure the best one in year and a half. Everything worked perfect: serve, return, my movement on court. I put big pressure on him."
Cilic now has 17-4 record at the event and is one of the most successful players in Zagreb. This is the fifth time that Croatian player won title in Zagreb, with Ivan Dodig and Ivan Ljubicic winning one title each.
“Everyone there saw it was a clear ace. You need points like this one in match like this. I needed this point in order to be close with him. He just run away after that”, Melzer said. “As a player you have best view. Things like that happen, and he deserved the victory. It was really good match he played”, Austrian added
